East Hawai’i Cultural Center’s Youth Arts Series (YAS) is an exciting immersion experience for young artists. Students have the opportunity to explore a variety of engaging and innovative art-making processes. The East Hawaii Cultural Center is proud to present the 2017 Hawaii Photography Exhibition: Isolation. This exhibition explores the theme of isolation through the lenses of twenty-six contemporary photographers from Hawaii island and beyond.

OIO Concert: from Piety to Piracy – Ave to Arrgh!

Orchid Isle Orchestra will present a concert on Saturday, May 20, 4 p.m., at the East Hawaii Cultural Center/Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Art (EHCC/HMOCA) in Hilo. Music includes works by Mozart (Ave Verum Corpus), Vivaldi/Bach, Grieg, Mascagni, Bartok, plus a medley from Pirates of the Caribbean. Walter Greenwood and Cathy Young conduct. The public is invited to this free concert; donations are welcome at the door. Craig Jenkins = Panchatantra & Ramayana

English Storyteller CRAIG JENKINS will tell tales from India in May. Craig tells stories from the Panchatantra (animal teaching tales, India’s Aesop’s fables), and chapters from India’s classic love story, the Ramayana.

Craig wins over audiences across the world with his funny, vibrant, & interactive shows. His animal characters text and use Facebook. His Ramayana has a more respectful tone to bring chapters of this complex epic to life. Nobody tells these tales like Craig, even in India! This is his first visit to our islands. Don’t miss him!

 

Heart Reach: an interactive music outreach fundraising experience

Heartbeat Instrumental and Hilo UrbFarm Present: Heart Reach, an interactive music outreach fundraising experience, a collaboration with the community to build a bridge between sustainable gardening and music. Hilo Urbfarm, located behind the East Hawaiian Cultural Center is a green networking hub to incorporate gardening and sustainable practices in our everyday lives through educational workshops, plant sales, making it easy and and accessible to the community.

Eligibility, Grant Amount to Matching Requirements, and a walk through the Arts.Gov website.

The workshop is provided to help you successfully complete and submit your Art Works grant by the upcoming July 4, 2017 application deadline.
